Something Welcome This Way Comes

I have just read an interesting press release in the Las Vegas Review Journal entitled, “Crate & Barrel plans '09 LV premiere” .   How will this affect consumers?  By offering, “a product line that uses European styling, high-quality construction and moderate pricing to appeal to customers who have upscale tastes but not always the budget to match.”  More options give consumers the chance to compare cost and quality of one brand versus another.  This is why Crate and Barrel’s plans to open one of its home furnishings stores in Summerlin Centre in 2009 are being welcomed with open arms.

Other chains such as Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Ikea and Target will now have another competitor vying for customers.  According to retail expert Mark Rein of the Acquity Group in Chicago, the styling of the house wares and furnishings offered by Crate and Barrel can best be described as, “modernist, but more European,”

Crate and Barrel’s core customers tend to be couples getting married, many registering their weddings with the home furnishings retailer.  Its glassware, flatware and other home furnishings are very popular compared with higher prices at Williams-Sonoma and lower quality at Ikea stores.  Consumers enjoy the option to exercise their level of education and sophistication in their choice of home furnishings without breaking the bank.

It is not by mistake that Crate and Barrel is going to enter into the Las Vegas Market.  Surveys of Summerlin Centre customers reveal that they would like to see either a Crate and Barrel or a Nordstrom open in this upscale mall.

Summerlin centre open air retail center

Another motivator is the fact that Summerlin Centre is planning to open a 1.2 million square feet open-air retail shopping area in early 2009, which will feature shops along tree-lined walkways where customers can beat the heat while shopping during the hot summer months.  This 100 acre, mixed-use development is sure to bring more retailers into the

Las Vegas area and provide shoppers with more options as well.  These plans to expand Summerlin Centre are in line with original plans to make this mall the commercial retail center of the entire community.  And expansion will not subside in 2009 with this addition, there are plans to keep developing this mall over the next 10 to 15 years.

So the plans are there, hopefully soon we will see another option in “tasteful, clean and modern furnishings”.  Please click to read the entire article highlighting Crate and Barrel’s plans to join the Las Vegas community.

Thank you,
