Las Vegas Schools
When choosing a neighborhood to settle into, most young families' top priority is the quality of the schools near their new home. It's vitally important to give children a good education, one that gets them off on the right foot. Las Vegas has some of the most well-rounded public and private schools in the country.
Clark County School District
All public schools in Las Vegas fall under the auspices of the Clark County School District. The school district is broken down into sectors - each with its own unique mission and vision for the education of its students. The regions are called East, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest. We've created links below so you can learn more about each region from the horse's mouth.
East Region - Schools
The East Region's mission statement is to "produce a community of learners who can read, write, compute, solve problems, and be socially dependable."
Northeast Region - Schools
The Northeast Region has a student body of 50,000 and 59 schools under its banner. The region's academic goals include giving students "equal access to the curriculum, resulting in graduation."
Northwest Region - Schools
The Northwest Region is committed to creating quality programs that are geared towards the success of all their students. The region serves a student body of 56,000 in 60 schools.
Southeast Region - Schools
The Southeast Region offers a traditional approach to academics. The region offers accelerated classes, staggered start times for high school students, and stresses high achievement scores.
Southwest Region - Schools
The Southwest Region's mission is to "develop socially responsible students who will graduate with the skills and attitudes necessary to succeed in post-secondary education and in the work force."
Las Vegas Private Schools
Las Vegas and the state of Nevada also offer a wide selection of private institutions for students and their families. The Nevada Department of Education has a directory (xls) of all the state private schools.
Post Secondary
Las Vegas offers an excellent selection of public and private post-secondary institutions. For a full list, see the Nevada Department of Education web site.
Community College of Southern Nevada
CCSN is the state's largest post-secondary institution and works under four guiding principles: pragmatism, innovation, diversity, and collaboration. The college "focuses on the needs of the citizens of Southern Nevada by providing educational and support services to meet those needs in the areas of transfer preparation, general education, vocational education, basic skills development, adult education and community service."
University of Nevada Las Vegas
UNLV is probably Nevada's most famous public post-secondary institute. The school has a student body of over 27,000 and offers a wide variety of programs for prospective students.
The Art Institute of Las Vegas
A private post-secondary school, AI offers programs in design, media arts and the culinary arts. The institute encourages an environment that is both exciting and nurturing, "where creative students can thrive."
